### February 13- scribe arielle

Today in class we had Mr. Bartz as a substitute. He assigned us part B on page 38 in the chapter 4 booklet (the "seal booklet"). Then he gave us a sheet which is number 6.8. It involves solving equations in more than one step. Here are 2 examples:

Question number one:

5x+4= 34 -4

-4

5x= 30

30/5=6

x=6

CHECK:

5x=30

5(6)=30

30=30 YAY! BOTH SIDES ARE EQUAL THEREFORE IT'S BALANCED AND CORRECT!

Step 1. Isolate the variables

Step 2. Cancel the integer(s) using its' opposite.

Step 3. Balance

Step 4. Cancel what is attached to the variable. (in this case i got rid of the 5 next to the variable by dividing by 5)

Step 5. Balance

Step 6. Substitute to check

Now let us apply the exact same steps to one more question..

Question 13:

x/5 + 3 = 7 -3

-3

x/5= 4

x/5= 4(5)

x=20

CHECK:

x/5=4

20/5=4

4=4

HOORAY! ONCE AGAIN BOTH SIDES ARE EQUAL, THEREFORE WE SUCCESSFULLY ANSWERED THE QUESTION CORRECTLY

Well that was all that we did today. Hope that this will help those that are having trouble with this section. REMEMBER! we have a test next math class so remember to study STUDY STUDY!! So long!
