February 20- scribe renee

Today in math class Mr harbeck talked about the parent quiz. The quiz for our power point presentation consist of us showing how we slove problems that have two step equations. For example:

1) 5x +4 =34 -4
-4
5x=30/5
x=6

check: 5(6)+4=24

Step 1. Isolate the variables
Step 2. Cancel the integer(s) using its' opposite.
Step 3. Balance
Step 4. Cancel what is attached to the variable. (in this case i got rid of the 5 next to the variable by dividing by 5)
Step 5. Balance
Step 6. Substitute to check

2) 6y+3=45 -3
-3
6y=42/6
x=7

check:6(7)+3=45

3) x/5+3=7 = -3
-3
x/5=4(5)
x=20

check:20/5+3=7

Later in the class he showed us something else.
Collecting like terms. These are terms that have the same variable parts and we call them terms.

3x+7x=40
add 10x=40
10/10 40/10
x=4
3(4)+7(4)=40

4x+6-9=9
4x-2x+6-9=9
2x-3= 9+3
+3
2x=6/2
x=6

You want to have 1 variable and i interger term on each side. After you have simplified.

Well. that is all we did in that class. Hope this has helped you guys in anyway. =)
